Blogger’s block and naming a podcast application

I just got out of the blogger’s block of, and i’m ready to write about where i’ve been.

At home.

Seriously, nothing has really happened. I’m still in male to female limbo, and have no idea what will happen next. I am quite amazed at how i’ve been handling myself though! In the past, i would just feel self-pity and waste away, but now, i just figure “Hey! What else can i do at this present moment? Might as well enjoy myself and be productive”. So i took up programming again. Been having a lot of fun making my podcast app. It’s coming along nicely actually..

Since my trans-scapades are in a halt, i guess instead of raporting on that on this post, i could show a screenshot and write a bit about my progress on the application.

Here’s a download link to the APK (Yes, it’s android only). It’s target minimum version at the moment is around 4.x+, i think. But the full version will be 3.x+
Plain and simple, it’s a podcast manager. Been doing a lot of the visual aspects of the app so far, but will be adding the meat of the program very soon. So you’ll be able to manage your podcasts as well as play them. It will have a lot more features than that, of course. But that’s the start of the alpha. My app is currently pre-alpha.

Anyhow. Now you know what i’ve been up to. In case you were curious. Going to try to keep my blogs as short as i can, because long posts can be a huge drag (And… i might have to leave very soon on my nightly stroll i always take around this time of night (9:30pm)).

By the by. I would love if anyone out there came up with a name for my application. Anyone interested in naming a podcast player for Android?

Podcast android app, part 2

Remember part 1? Me neither! For some reason, i think i made a part 1 at some point. It’s been a long time since i updated on this subject. The reason being is that i just haven’t had any progress.. Until now! For two days now, i’ve been enjoying some android programming for my phone!

I’m making a podcast app, akin to “beyondpod”. Only, mine won’t have — what i consider — the issues that beyondpod has. More on what that is later. Right now, i’m learning the bells and whistles of android. How it operates and how it works! Since i’ve done GUI programming on a number of different platforms in the past (Windows, java applets, css), this has been going very smoothly. A lot of it is similar to Windows, but some of it has a very unique Android feel to it. Like how you use classes, and what everything in an app is considered..
This is all technological babble though! How about a screenshot?

Note the little magnifying glass at the top left, in the notifications bar/top bar.
So yea.. It’s just testing the platform at the moment, so nothing i can really report on! All i’ve really done on the podcast app is thinking about features i want, and how i want it to look like. All in my head, so nothing i can show, yet!
Oh, some of the features it won’t have is backwards compatibility. I think 3.0 will be the lowest i’ll go. Mainly because i intend to keep this a free product, but also because i can’t really test the program on lower OSes.
I’m look forward to updating this more often!

PS: 10 points if you get the reference in the popup at the bottom of the screen!

Day 96: I’m officially a student!

In today’s post:
Music program news. I’m a STUDENT!!! Amazing day. Bob ross and gamegrumps.

Music program update

Before i jump into the juicy bits of how my day was, i would just like to point out that i found a great platform for visual express C/C++/C#/.net/etc, to let me integrate HTML in my music app, powering it with webkit. It’s called “Awsomium”. So hopefully, i can make the application using only javascript, css and HTML.

I will learn more about it tomorrow. It’s a little light on tutorials and examples, so i have to manually check the API documentation to see what it can do, etc.
It seems like i’ll have to learn some C# though. But we’ll see.

It’s been an amazing day today. Started it off by getting a mail saying that i was accepted into the school i applied for, then i resigned from the employment offices because of it, made the payment for my bra and my skirt that i won on the auctions, talked a bunch with people, and just had an awesome day. I’m actually happy for once.

So i’ll get another answer from the school in a few days or so, instructing when i’ll start.
I need to turn to a different venue to be able to afford with a flat now though. Although… I could just sign up for a student flat. That way, the money you get from simply studying (Yes, we get money from going to college in Sweden) will be enough. Either way. I’m excited!

I’ll be eating junk food and snacks,  just to celebrate!

Today’s Image/video

First of. I’ve been watching a lot of gamegrumps lately. It’s a collab between Jontron and Egoraptor. A match made in heaven, if you ask me. Very funny guys:

Then this video came out a few hours ago:

Bob Ross is pretty awesome! Gotta love that afro.

Day 85: Good old Jenna

In today’s post:
Music halt, amazingatheist and vanilla flavored words.

Not much has happened today. Was raining for the most part. Has been pretty cold for a few days too.
Been watching a lot of Amazingatheist as of late. I think he’s a good combination between funny and interesting. But yea. Training is going fairly well. Should probably get less lazy on the situps, but other than that.

For the most part though, i’ve been programming.

Music program update

Less than a minute ago, i fixed an issue that i had been sitting with the whole day. The issue is that it wouldn’t update any animations if the window wasn’t in focus. Turned out to be an allegro thing, where i had to tell it to be able to do so.. I should have gone through the function index on allegro before mixing around with peek and get message. But hey! It’s done now.

Tomorrow, i’ll be implementing timers and making the animations. Sadly, i have nothing to show at the moment. But there’s the update!

I will start looking for an apartment! Fuck yes!! Then i’ll be listening to Penn’s sundayschool. Love that podcast.

And… i think that’s all i wanted to say. A fairly vanilla day.

Day 83: Child sex slaves and stampedes

In today’s post:
Child sex slaves & stampedes. Programming woes, over! Blog redesign

Making a music player pt2

I might stop making parts on this sub-section later. Because i’ll probably write quite a bit about it.

Anyway! I’ve finally fixed my PNG woes. I ended up using something based on directX (Which isn’t too bad) which is usually reserved for videogames, called “Allegro”. It’s slim enough, works well enough and it can handle everything i want it to handle.

I’ve written some essentials outside of the program. Such as, feature list/todo, version info and general info about the program. I quote:

Widget player is a music player designed to be open, easy to use, good looking, modable and powerful right out of the box.
It was inspired by the iOS double tap homescreen menu.
I created this player because the only music player that came close to what i needed was winamp. Even then, if i had made it a skin instead, i would not only lose out on the functionality i want, but more importantly, the open-ness. I think that being able to mod a program however you want is important, and although i might not be able to achieve that for everyone, i hope to at least make it so that the majority are satisfied.

It was made using the gcc/mingw compiler, and allegro (Which is usually used for games), and is powered by curl, IE-frame (Which could be changed later for gecko), fmod, ffmpeg and much more.

Widget player is free to use, and always will be. Aside for maybe an ad in the installer (If it comes to that) and donation, no money is involved.

Which gets me to the final part. If you liked this application to any extent, please consider a donation. Thank you.
If you have any suggestions, questions, praize or hate you want to send my way, i’m contactable through this email: littlejojoisme@gmail.com

I would like to thank you for using Widget player, and i hope you like it.

It’s really fun to make this. Tomorrow, i think i will do the rest of the theme and get the animations for the different buttons and stuff working. I was thinking of borrowing from the windows 7 start orb school of animating.

Child sex slaves and stampedes

I would have made a separate post if i wanted to go in depth on this, so i won’t. But i will tell about what happened.

A vegan i follow on twitter tweeted today where he equated child sex slaves with horses dying in stampedes. Before i go on to point out what i said, or at least wanted to have said; i wanted to point out that i know for a fact that i could have put my argument better, and that i probably misspoke more than once. You can check my twitter if you want to see the whole conversation and judge for yourself. I got a little too carried away at times, and fealt that i didn’t get my point across. That being said. Here’s my interpretation (Could be wrong): I told him that the two are too different to be compared, and he told me that they’re “in principle”, the same, because they’re both unnecessary exploitation of animals.
The argument went on, and i eventually told him that it’s basically the same as me equating a toe ache with the pure hurt that someone who just lost his or her leg must feel. I made an example similar to that before making that one, to which he responded that  i was being absurd, “ad-absurdum”. Yes! It is! Of course it’s absurd! What you said is absurd too…

All in all, all i can do is to hope that i got my message across. I mean, i know him as a vegan looks at animals and humans very differently than i do. I hope to one day understand exactly that sort of thinking. Until then, i need to try to keep an open mind about it. Maybe i’m failing at that though, i wouldn’t know.
It is kind of funny that i get accused of not being empathetic and for trivializing suffering, when he just made that statement though.

Blog redesign

If it didn’t cost, i would make the design myself. But i think i found one i’m pretty happy with now.  I for one like it.. Yea.. What else.. I guess that’s it.

A full sunny day for one. Not a single rain drop. If we have it like that tomorrow, i might go down to the fields again. Which should be nice. Oh, and i got so caught up with the programming that i never looked for a flat. But i will do that tomorrow.
I played some Mario 3d land again today, and i’m really starting to get into it, i think. It’s really fun and quite different from any other mario game out there. I recommend checking it  out.

More programming, probably, and look for some flats. Good times!

Numberphile (A great youtube channel), made a fun song involving numbers today:

It’s not too bad actually. I quite enjoyed it.

Day 82: P.N.G won’t F.I.T

In today’s post: Programming, looking for home, provincial rape and a rather slender man.

Making: Music program – day 2

A late blog post for the first time in ages. It’s about 11pm right now. I’ve always written it around 8pm – 9pm before. But hey! It’s always nice writing later as well.
The reason why this one’s late is because i’ve been trying to find a way to draw a PNG file to a HDC buffer. With little success so far. I fear i will have to use some wrapper after all. I haven’t tried if GTK+ integrates with windows yet though. Probably won’t, and i’m not sure if i want to try. Oh, and the GTK+ thing fell through because i found that getting web capabilities through that would make it slow. Take it like this. For each step, the program gets slower:

Binary -> Machine code -> Assembler -> High level language (C++) -> Wrapper -> Scripting language for wrapper -> Script to add web capabilities.

What i want to use is this:

Binary -> Machine code -> Assembler -> High level language (C++) -> Native windows (GDI).

But it seems i will have to just settle for a wrapper on top of windows instead. I’m sure the new version of the GDI API (Application programming interface for windows native code) that was released with windows 7 is able to put PNGs though. Maybe with the help of some libraries and Alphablended bmp blitting, or something..
Like i said, i’m kind of trying to find a good way to do it.

Here’s an unfinished mockup/preview of how i want the program to look. The window at the bottom rolls up and down depending if you have the mouse at the bottom (Or top, if you’d rather have that) of the screen. So you can do that to easily play music.

As soon as i’ve figued this one out, i won’t have much problem with anything else.

I called up the welfare place today!! They said that i should find an appartment, and come back to them. So they can approve the price. Very good news, in other words. So tomorrow, i’ll sign up for “bollnäs bostäder”, and start looking for a place to live!

I got news today that told of a woman who had been brutally raped and is now at the hospital. The two men who did it even stole her phone. Hopefully, it was a modern one, so you can track them down.
I talk about this because.. Well, it happened in the middle of the city. It’s the first time i’ve really felt “I could have done something about it”. I mean, yea. I live far from there, but my brother lives like, 50 steps from it. If i had chosen to stay at his place this week, i might have been awake at the time when it happened, and i could have stopped it. Obviously not my fault or anything, but it feels so surreal this time, because it was so close. I feel incredibly sorry for the woman who got raped, and it’s been on my mind the whole day.

We had the first thunderstorm of the summer today. Left the place very cold. It’s cold outside right now.
Still playing a lot of Mario Kart 7. I’ve been thinking of going to super mario 3d land though. Hehe! My brother talked about getting me some more games too. He said that he wanted to get some games he wanted to play. Haha!

Friday tomorrow. So i guess i’ll have myself something delish to eat.
Talking about future though. When i get my own place, i will start changing my life around for real! Like my mom and little brother is going to stop smoking now.. A lot of good change to come in the near future, that’s for sure.

For the first time in a long time, i actually have something to look forward to.

Today’s image/video

So.. PeteDorr on youtube uploaded this thing:

Damn, that game is creepy. I probably wouldn’t be able to play it. But well worth checking out the videos though. You’ve been warned though.

Day 51: iOS6

I usually have a problem naming my entries.. Well.. At least until i’ve written down my thoughts. But this time, it was obvious that it had to be “iOS6”. More on that in a few though.

A week of training! Seven days! It’s one of the best things i’ve done in a long time. Having some daily stuff i have to do, that actually requires quite a lot of physical work. It’s a good thing to have, and again, i highly recommend anyone to start doing exercises on a regular basis.

Today’s been a fairly ok day. I’ve been feeling a little exhausted as of late. But it happens.. I feel that perhaps i should tone down a lot on the sweets and snacks. It’s been something i feel i should have done a long time ago, but it’s even harder doing that when i live at home, where an issue for me is, as the song goes, an excess of excess.

My little brother’s been trolling cheaters in call of duty all day today. He really loves doing it. And really, it’s pretty much an open thing with hackers/cheaters in games. Making them annoyed or whatever, while they’re cheating, is a-ok with me, and most of us. Sure, you could claim it’s a waste of time, but heck! He seemed to be enjoying himself.

I actually had to make a shorter list on what to write about on this post, because i have so many different thoughts on things right now.
Apple announced a bunch of apple stuff today at their developer conference today. Mountain lion looks really pretty, and it makes me want an apple laptop, almost. Especially now that there’s an echo system for notifications. A feature windows has ALWAYS lacked.. I mean.. The best we have is the tray and baloon popups. Sure, we could go to growl and integrate via that one, but i feel that growl lacks too many features, and is far from pretty. Maybe because making things pretty in windows is not a default, like xcode. Trust me.. I’ve dug around in the libraries. They’re well documented and all, but it certainly takes a lot more time to make something look pretty on it. But i digress…

iOS6.. Business men and women are going to love it. They certainly put a huge emphasis on that crowd. From a bunch of different siri upgrades which can display much more info now, to upgrades of the mail app. Heck! Everything got smaller updates. Sadly, none of it really captured me. iOS4 was awesome because you could have background and multitasking. Two huge things if you ask me. Then iOS5 with notification center. A bit of a game-changer that one. But iOS6 did nothing for me. The safari stuff, i’m still curious about though. They had finally activated the transfer API (Or whatever it’s called), so that you can upload things like pictures to files via the browser. But i do wonder about the webkitnotification API on it. I’m not keeping my hopes up though.
Accesability and moving away from google were two pretty major things too. I mean.. Siri has many more languages now, and google maps is no longer integrated into it. They have their own service now apparently. Now.. If they could only remove the damn youtube app.
I think that about covers the iOS stuff. I’m a huge freak when it comes to things like these. I just love new tech.

While the iOS live blogging was going on, i was scripting. For the first time in a long time, i was making scripts. I started the day with some simple youtube video thing (The one i mentioned i’d do yesterday), but scrapped it because i just didn’t see the point of it. I tried to justify it as a “fullscreen, everything you need videoplayer, or some shiz”, but i just gave up on the idea. I did, however, make a script that would notify you on new comments on any video you visit. It’s currently in its early stages. Still a lot of improvements to do on it. But i think it should be fun to keep developing on it. Right now, it does the very basics. Checks when new comments appear on a video (Only on the “All comments” page of a video right now) and pops up a simple notification for you. I’m using it right now actually, and it’s just fun! I don’t know if anyone else gets the same feeling from their creations, but i certainly love it. Small as it may be. You can find it here: http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/135779 Currently only works on chrome, although i should probably try to find alternate ways of displaying notifications on other browsers. I should also make a todo list on it. So i can keep my thoughts in check on it.

And those are some of the more major things of today. I wanted to make a note that i’m just loving Penn’s sunday school, and i almost feel like going back to penn radio again. Then i’m still having a lot of fun with Dungeon Village. My town is about to hit lv 3 now. I lack some income to meet the requirements to advance.
And lastly.. like i mentioned yesterday. I was feeling pretty old when i thought about that it was about 7 years ago since i turned 18.. And since then, all i’ve done is that i have failed a school due to… Too many factors and a long long story about a lover. I have decided that i will make a video about it sometime when i move out. Like i said earlier.. But yea. I failed school, and… Been at home for most of that time. Damn, no wonder i’ve been feeling so mentally unstable. But it has taught me quite a bit though, and i feel that this experience will aid me in my life. To have been down and out. It’s given me a lot of time to think.. But yea.. I’ve rambled long enough! This post is over 1000 words now. Fuck!! I feel like i should include some pictures in the middle. Why not.

Kind of a random video this time:

I feel that i have snapped up a little from this guy though. He’s very talented. Anyway!!!! That is it! I’m done. If you read all this, you’re awesome!
